Yellow Dot !

 Illustrated Short Story

Yellow Dot recounts an experience I had 18 years ago – when my friend, Elsa, died from inflammatory breast cancer.

We were close and she suffered so much during 18 months of treatments. If you have had a similar experience with a loved one, perhaps you know the anxiety that goes with watching someone suffer. My fear was that her beautiful life would be diminished by the awful ending. I asked Elsa to find a way to let me know that she was ok – and she did. She took me to a fantastic place and shared a very meaningful parable about a yellow dot. It was a beautiful and deeply meaningful journey that caused me to change my ideas about suffering and death.

Over the years, I have shared the story with friends and family. Every time I have been urged to paint the imagery and make the story available. As I am an artist, and the story is quite visual, I have promised that I would tell it if I could capture the imagery. The things I saw and felt are difficult to capture, so I chose a stylized presentation. I hope the text and artwork together, conveys they story adequately.

I finally found the look I wanted and have produced 16 mixed media paintings. To make the images, I used drawing, painting and collage - creating many of the collage papers myself.  I still need to get print quality digital files,  I have engaged an art photographer, and had proofs done for two images.
