This body of work was started well into the Covid pandemic. Our Art Center in Ashland Oregon was first temporarily closed, then permanently shuttered. I was represented in the gallery, taught in the classroom and had recently launched an art photography business from that location. It was also my social center, so the loss was quite destabilizing. We all know the feeling of being stuck in our homes - unable to travel and see people.
These paintings represent my desire to travel and experience new places. They are essentially mindscapes expressing my love of color, architecture, cityscapes and light. The transparent color layers are made more luminous by the juxtaposition of opaque grays. I create harmony and balance by repeating geometric forms and adding small strokes of pure color. I seek to transport the viewer to a unique and enchanting environment.
